Biography

Bill Mellett, ASLA, is a graduate of UCLA's Landscape Architecture program and a registered Landscape Architect. He has over 35 years of experience in the landscape industry and was the owner of a design build landscape contracting company involving all facets of landscape construction. As a Licensed Contractor, Certified Arborist, and Landscape Architect, Bill has an extensive knowledge of construction methods and materials. After graduating from UCLA, Bill focused solely on landscape design. In 2006, he founded his own firm, Bill Mellett Design (BMD). His vast amount of experience is the result of completing hundreds of diverse projects in both public and private sectors. Bill's love of the outdoors and respect for the natural environment are the cornerstone to his landscape designs. He is a natural collaborator who believes that superior design, executed professionally, combined with excellent customer service are the keys to a successful project.

Philosophy

At Bill Mellett Design (BMD), we believe landscape design is a blending of Art and Nature. We take natural materials and processes and compose them in a way that is beautiful, functional, and in harmony with nature. It is impossible to protect what you do not respect. Our attitudes about preserving natural conditions have a strong influence on our design and construction priorities. Our unique background in construction, horticulture, and architecture are the driving force behind beautiful, yet practical, landscape designs. Our understanding of construction realities and true commitment to consensus building enable BMD to complete projects on time and on budget.

BMD Team

The BMD design team approach is based on communication, collaboration, innovation, and exceptional execution. Through this team approach, continuity is maintained so that the needs and desires of the client are successfully achieved. At BMD, our design team members bring to each project a variety of experience and extensive knowledge of all aspects of the built and natural environments. BMD team members have degrees in Landscape Architecture, Computer Graphics, and are LEED AP certified. Their education and experience enables them to work closely together to produce implementable plans that become beautifully built and inspiring landscapes.
